Fort Competition

We had some pretty impressive entries for the reading fort competition - check this out!

Well done, team! These forts are incredible!

Week 3 Term 2 2020

Thank you so much to everyone who filled in the survey so promptly to let us know who will be returning to school during Level 3. There are still restrictions in place and this includes social distancing. Please keep safe and look after yourselves and your families.

Last week we had group zoom sessions for ‘show and tell.’ There was lots of excitement at seeing friends and familiar faces and we had lots of fun. We were just thrilled to hear everyone's different stories. Thank you so much for encouraging your children to join in online with us. We hope to do some sessions online this week. Mrs T, Miss Ryan and Mrs D will be at school from Tuesday and will share the responsibility of online and in class tasks. We will keep you posted on the availability of online zoom sessions this week.

There have been a huge amount of parent stories uploaded onto Educa. It has been a wonderful way for us to keep in touch and see the enormous amount of learning that is going on. We are so impressed with the originality and flair that families are showing when helping their children with their activities. Keep loading the parent stories we just love receiving them and seeing what our cherubs are up to.
For those of you still a little wary of educa here are some helpful links to help you to upload your own parent stories.

Online learning will continue again from Wednesday this coming week.
Tomorrow (Tuesday) a Teacher Only Day to prepare for our little onsite bubble
of kids, so we won’t be available online.

Literacy
Thursday will be a reading focus day. On Wednesday our focus is on writing.
Friday will be our usual Poem day. Activities will be sent via Educa. Lexia
will be used to support their literacy development. Please, no more than
15 minutes a day on Lexia. Our children learn better through real-world play
and activity. Let me know if you think Lexia is too hard - I am doing a reset for
a group this week.

Maths
We will send a maths challenge on Wednesday and Thursday via Educa for you
to have a go at. It is wonderful to see everyone in the family having a try at them.
I've had a number of people say that Maths Whizz can be a bit tricky - I think you
might be right. The maths challenges and real world maths is just fine so
don't push it. We don't want you or your child in tears over Maths Whizz.

If there is anything else we can do to help support you at home or any questions
you may have, please let us know. Stay safe in your bubbles and take care. We
look forward to continuing working alongside you in this unusual learning journey.

Earth Day audio book (the day after Earth day but still awesome)

Danny DeVito reads The Lorax, for Earth Day.
“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not,"

Enjoy.

Happy Earth Day

Beaude went for a nature walk with Grandma, Mum, Elliot and Oscar.  Look at his amazing finds.
Luke made this gorgeous piece of art out of leaves and grass.

Madeline collected 44 awesome leaves and 7 great twigs for her Earth Day art.

Alexa made this gorgeous tree.  What a lot of work.

Zique made some gorgeous leaf rubbings AND a really cool leaf necklace.  Zique has been busy planting a vegetable garden at home, too!  You have been busy.

Happy Earth Day, Everyone!
If you have made an Earth Day masterpiece, too, share it on educa and
I'll share it with everyone on the blog tomorrow.

Week 2 Term 2 2020

Welcome to another week of online learning. Thank you to all of the families for supporting your children throughout these unprecedented times. It was lovely catching up with so many of you via video calls, seeing your beautiful smiles and hearing your gorgeous giggles - we miss being able to see you in person. It sounds like some fabulous things are happening in your homes and that you are all enjoying spending this quality time with one another.

We really appreciate all of the great parent stories uploaded onto Educa - they have been a
delight to read. Many have made us giggle with your antics and we are so proud of all your
efforts. We have been so excited that we would like to share them with Mr Macmillan - he
is going to be blown away with your creativity and all the learning you are doing at home. We
look forward to many more being uploaded this week.

There has been some talk of reopening schools at Level 3. Please be assured that as soon as
the official decision is announced by the Prime Minister, we will let our whole school community
know exactly what this entails. In the meantime, we remain at Alert Level 4 and school remains
online.

Show and Tell Video Chats
This week for our video chats we will be having show and tell. You can bring along an item, toy,
pet, song, skill, or something else to your video call. Be prepared to talk about what you
have and answer questions from your classmates.

Random groups will be assigned a day and time, so you can see and chat to others
- your teacher will be there too.
The choices are: Option A - 9:00-10:30, Option B - 11:00-12:30 or Option C - 1:30-3:00. Please, email me with the day and option that suits your bubble and I'll work up a timetable and
get back to you.  If there are any issues around timing (e.g. you have online meetings etc) just
let me know and I'll try to work around it.

Literacy
Monday and Wednesday are reading focus days.  On Tuesday and Thursday, we will focus on
writing. We will send out activities via Educa. Lexia will be used to support their literacy development. We don’t want to see kids on Lexia for more than 15 minutes a day. Our children learn better through real-world play and activity.

Maths
There is a maths challenge or two on this week's bingo board. There will also be a fun challenge
sent out via Educa for you to have a go at.

If there is anything else we can do to help support you at home or any questions you may have,
please let us know. Stay safe in your bubbles and take care. We look forward to continuing
working alongside you in this unusual learning journey.

Welcome back - Term 2 2020

Welcome back to Term 2 2020.  It’s a wee bit different this term - we have
had to make some changes.  This term our concept is ADAPTABILITY -
how and why do things change. We will send a Bingo Board of activities
for you each week. It is not expected that you will complete ALL activities
every week. Have a go at 3-4 in the week and be sure to share some of
your learning to Educa.

All learning activities will be posted to Educa for you and your child to
access. The class blog will be used to share nuts and bolts information
with parents and to celebrate home learning success.  Teachers will be
contacting students over the next little while. We want to touch base,
see how you are going and how we can help. If you have any questions
or queries check the blog/Educa and then email your class teacher.
We are here to help.

Literacy
Monday and Wednesday are reading focus days.  On Tuesday and
Thursday, we will focus on writing. We will send home some little activities
and ideas for you to use. These will use the reading resources we sent
home at the end of term 1. You will also receive ideas about how to
encourage your child to write at home.

Lexia will be used to support their literacy development. We don’t want
to see kids on Lexia for more than 15 minutes a day. Our children learn
better through real-world play and activity. Find real world ways to revise/
practice their Lexia learning.

Maths
We will include a maths challenge in the bingo board of activities each
week.  You also have Maths Whizz to support maths learning and
development. Again, we don’t want to see kids on Maths Whizz for more
than 15 minutes a day. There are many play activities that encourage and
develop maths thinking.

We miss all of the beautiful smiling faces of our Kakano students. Please,
let us know if you need any support or guidance. We look forward to
working alongside you in this unusual learning adventure.
