Week 4 Term 4

 Week 4  Term 4

Week 4 already! Before we know it the school production will be on and Christmas will be knocking on our door step. We have been really impressed with how focused our Kakano 1-3 tamariki are this term. Thank you for all your help and support at home with their learning.

It’s getting pretty hot and sticky during the school day. Please, make sure you bring a water bottle to school.  Our brains need good hydration to function properly. Remember to bring your hats to school each day too so you can run around and play in the sunshine.

Thank you to all the parents and families who were able to come and help out with the working bee on Saturday. Many tasks were completed and the school looks amazing.

Production Costumes - Mrs Thomson and Mrs McIntyre are looking at sourcing costumes for all Kakano children for the production. In order to do this effectively we need to know what size shorts and t-shirts your children are. Can you please flick a quick email to your child’s classroom teacher to let them know the correct sizes. Thanks for your help with this.

Kakano 1 and 2 are swimming this week

Kakano 1 has the first swimming slot of the day. Make sure you are at school well before 8:45 so you can enjoy all of your swimming time.

Kakano 1 and 2 remember to bring your togs, towel and a bag to put them in each day.

Religious Education

This week we are continuing with our God strand. We are learning how Jesus is God’s most precious gift and how Jesus reveals God to us as a loving and forgiving father.

Mathematics

This week we are looking at skip counting in 2s, 5s or 10s to solve problems. We will also be looking at using the mathematical language of certain, possible and impossible in different scenarios.

Literacy

We are learning to be independent readers and writers. We have lots of great skills and knowledge that help us to find and fix our own mistakes.  You can help us by sitting on your hands and biting your tongue and letting us figure it out (yes, our teachers know how hard that is - be strong Mums and Dads).

Another round of testing begins this week for our kakano 1-3 tamariki. It will continue for the next 2-3wks as each child is tested individually. We will endeavour to keep our normal programmes running as smoothly as possible during this time.

PTA Meeting: for your diary - next meeting is Wednesday 4 November at 7pm in the school staffroom. Anyone is welcome to attend this meeting.

FREE PARENTING PROGRAMME AT ST MARY'S ....

An internationally renowned, FREE, Parenting Program will be offered at St.Mary’s in Terms 1 and 2 of 2021. It will be presented by Erna Cullen, from the Ministry of Education and Corbus Venter, an Educational Psychologist with a passion for helping young children.

It is a 14 week evidence based program that supports parents who have concerns about their child’s conduct. If you feel like you need some help or want to understand your children better, this is a course for you.

There will be an information afternoon/evening held on the 5th November in the school library at 2.30pm and again at 5.15pm, for those interested in learning more about the Incredible Years' Parent course. Feel free to come along to find out more and have a chat to the convenors of the course or to sign up.

If you would like to register your interest for this course earlier, please email or phone Brigitte Holmes, our Learning Support Coordinator. brigitteh@stmarysrotorua.school.nz Mobile 0272121206

Week 3 Term 4

Mālo ni.

It is Tokelauan Language Week.  There are lots of great resources if you would like to learn a few handy phrases to help our Pasifika whanau celebrate their language and culture. https://www.facebook.com/nztokelaulanguageweek has some great little video clips.

We hope you had a great long weekend - it didn’t feel quite long enough, though, did it?  It was nice to have a bit of sunny weather. It’s getting pretty hot and sticky during the school day. Please, make sure you bring a water bottle to school.  Our brains need good hydration to function properly.

Swimming - Kakano 3 is swimming this week.

You have the first swimming slot while the pool is nice and warm. It might be a good idea to come to school wearing your togs under your uniform (but don’t forget to pack your underwear in your swimming bag).

Thank you for your support with the Young Vinnies Loud Shirt Day. We raised over $200.

Working Bee - from Mr Macmillan

We intend to have a working bee on Saturday October 31st. There are a number of jobs that need to be done. Children are welcome and we will have a BBQ lunch.

Religious Education

This week in RE we are finishing the Creation story and have some lovely work to display later this week.  We are also going to be leading the school Rosary at 9am on Thursday.  You are most welcome to join us but Mrs T and Miss Ryan will be snapping a million photos, as usual, for those who can’t make it.

Mathematics

We are looking at different strategies for subtraction. You can help us to subtract by helping us to count backwards - it’s quite tricky.  We will also be looking at problem solving with shapes. Shapes are all around us. Maybe you could do a shapes treasure hunt at home?

Literacy

We are learning to be independent readers and writers. We have lots of great skills and knowledge that help us to find and fix our own mistakes.  You can help us by sitting on your hands and biting your tongue and letting us figure it out (yes, our teachers know how hard that is - be strong Mums and Dads).

Week 1 Term 4

Welcome back Kakano 1, 2 and 3 whanau. We are looking forward to an exciting term with you. We hope you’ve had a fun and relaxing holiday, and are ready to hit the ground running. There’s certainly a lot to keep us busy this term.

There are a lot of notices for the start of term…

School Starts at 8:45am - please ensure your child is here before this time

School finishes at 3:00pm for all students - except bus students who leave class at 2:50pm.

Summer Uniform

All children are expected to be in their summer uniforms from tomorrow. Girls - remember to take your nail polish off tonight and if your hair is shoulder length, or longer, it needs to be tied back. Our Uniform Shop is open Mondays (8.30-9.00am), Wednesdays (2.30-3.00pm) & Fridays (8.30-9.00am) during term time. The girls’ summer dresses are currently only available from our school uniform shop. Please don’t forget children need to wear the school sun hats in term 4.

We also sell school uniforms via our school website. You can order and pay online and pick up your uniform from the school reception after you have been notified by email that the uniform is ready to pick up. Hopefully this will be easier for those parents who find it difficult to get to our uniform shop.

HATS - ARE COMPULSORY THIS TERM

No hat = No play. Please, please, please ensure your child’s hat is clearly named.

Swimming

We are all swimming this term - week on, week off. Unless you have a medical note to explain why you are not swimming, please bring your togs, towel and a bag to put them in, everyday in the weeks that your class is on.

If you have misplaced your reading log form simply write your name and room number on a piece of paper, add the books you’ve read and bring it back to school.

School Production - Peter Pan

This is scheduled to take place in week 9 this term - further details to come as the term goes on for dates/times/ticket prices. At this stage Kakano 1, 2 and 3 are doing their performance on Tuesday 8th December. There is a matinee and an evening show. The remaining Kakano classes will have their performance on Wednesday 9th December. All classes are involved in the production and we begin practicing our dances this week.

October is the month of the Rosary and for the next three weeks each area of the school will lead us in a different Rosary Mystery.
