Week 3 Term 1 2020

We have had an amazing first full week in Kakano! The children are settling quickly into new routines and are loving being back with their friends. Mrs T, Mrs D and Miss Ryan are enjoying getting to know their very individual, fun and quirky personalities. We're going to have a great term and year together.

Here's what is happening this week

Brain Breaks
This week Kakano will be having a brain break midway through the first block. Children will be allowed to have chilled milk from school and a piece of fruit. Thank you for providing fruit for their brain breaks. This helps them to keep their brains energised for learning until morning tea time.

Hats
Thank you to all the wonderful children who remember to bring their hats each day. Remember to keep bringing your hat so you can play in the sun. The uniform shop is open Monday & Friday mornings 8:30-9:00 and Wednesday afternoon 2:30-3:00 if you need to purchase a new hat. Alternatively you can order hats through our school website - go to the Our Uniform tab.

Opening School Mass
All friends and family are welcome to come and celebrate our opening school mass with us. Mass is at 9am in the church. We will be locking and leaving class promptly at 8:45. Please ensure you are at school before this so we can go to the church together. If you should arrive after we have left, please make your way promptly to the church and join us there.

Gala Countdown
The school GALA is on Thursday 5th March from 4-7pm - rain, hail or shine. In preparation for the GALA a notice (on blue paper) was sent home this week with suggestions of what contributions to bring each day. Just in case your notice has been misplaced, here is what to bring this week.

Sport BoP are holding a Rotorua-wide Go By Bike Day this Wednesday 19 February and one of the pit stops will be on the Ranolf Street shared pathway. There will be a gazebo set up at 132 Ranolf Street, opposite Guidough’s Bakery, offering fruit and spot prizes for commuters on wheels.

We would like our St Mary’s school community to participate in this amazing event.

The plan for Wednesday 19th February:
8am – meet at Sophia Street with bikes / scooters
8:10am – make way down Ranolf Street shared path
What we need:
Parents / caregivers to marshal / help out at road crossings assisting groups of our wheeled commuters safely across the roads.
Please contact Leanne, School Sports Coordinator if you can assist or require more information.
